Harvest 2012: A wheat crop of 13.31M/T?

The first provisional estimates from this year’s production survey from DEFRA/HGCA (the first official estimates are due in November) are now available to view online.

The estimates put this year’s total wheat crop at 13.31M/T – 13% down on last year. “Detrimental weather” is cited as responsible for the losses which brought the lowest average yield since 1988.

Barley crops have performed better than last year (apparently) – an increase of 0.6% on last year’s crop at 5.527M/T.

UK oat output has grown 8% to 662,000/T. It is not yet known if this is due to a larger sewn area or better yields.

OSR production fell 7% on last year, with many left disappointed after last year’s bumper crop.
